Hawk. You said...."Where we disagree is painting all Muslims as a bunch of fanatical wackos who will kill an infidel at their first opportunity, and this belief I reject as bordering on extreme religious bigotry."....

Hawk, that is not at all where we disagree. Matter of fact I was not aware we did disagree. I am very surprised you would make this assumption or come to this conclusion after knowing what I posted to you in the last two days.

I posted to you the following indicating to you that I agree with your position on moderates within islam.

My statements...."I still believe that the majority of islam is still moderate but for how long."...
Message 22119568

...."Agreed, Moderate islam is being silenced by the crazies and is the reason why I said the following"....
Message 22120741

..."Gees, I am beginning to think there are more moderate muslims in Iraq that in Britain."....
Message 22119568

....."I have always viewed The Iraq war as constructive coercion and like you have just said " But most moderates are, by nature, not easily roused unless they feel they have a chance to succeed against the oppression they are subjected to."

Maybe USA in Iraq will rouse the moderates and have them think they have a chance to succeed.".....

Hawk. In this statement you did not seperate radical from moderate islam you lumped them all together...I did not conclude from this statement that you thought all muslims were the same.

...."The reason militancy is on the rise is because the Islamic world LAGS BEHIND, economically, politically, and ideologically, the rest of the world.".....
Message 22119958

You said...."Maybe if you re-read the history of the Crusades, or perhaps the 30 years war, you'll see where Christians were just as brutal about spreading their beliefs."....

Are you referring to ALL Christians? :-)
Again I assume you mean radical christians?

And I agree with your statement about the crusades, and witch burning etc. etc.

Hawk, IMO there are writings in all religions that can be used by fanatics to commit violence against other innocent people and I believe islam has such writings within their religion that enables fanatics to commit murder in the belief they are following their religion ...literally.

All muslims read the same koran but not all of them interpret the words the same way just as all catholics read the same bible. The difference as I see it is that the catholic religion...using it as and example....advanced their religion with the times and islam has not which IMO paves the way for radicals to flurish within islam...not all muslims but a good many are radicals. I suppose a lot depends where they are located...Pakistan as an example.
