In the US we pay top-dollar for health care and let the lion's share of that money go up in smoke due to the outrageous and inefficient use of emergency rooms to provide care for the uninsured -- it is a scandalous waste of money and provides the worst kind of health care service to a huge portion of the American people. Not insruing people cost far more than insuring them -- and it robs them of basic human dignity and services. As people get old, they not only fear sickness, but also the bankruptcy that sickness brings to them. It is a shocking failure.
