Springfields and Mausers have been converted to very fine sporting rifles probably more than any other military weapon. I have one of those post war 98s that was made in Czechoslovakia in a factory built by the Germans. It has the bayonet and leather goods, and is in like new condition even though it is over 50 years old. I probably will not sporterize it, but just keep it for a curiosity. When I took it out to the range for the first time, an old gentleman came over and asked about it. He said he had carried one in Norway during the war.
