"... To assume that she would do anything 'disruptive', you'd have to also assume that the politician's wife who wore the Support our Troops shirt would jump up in the middle of the speech and break out in 'This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land'."

I see no reason to make such an assumption. Sheehan is a special case in that she has made a name for herself by sponsoring or being placed at the center of events and activities that provoke controversy and draw media attention.

It is not necessarily her personality to create such scenes everywhere she goes. It is a strategy specific to promoting an anti-establishment agenda with regards to the Bush Administration. So much so, that it is now a reason to bring her to events. It would be unusual not to expect something creative and notable with regard to her presence at such an event. This event was a perfect opportunity for her to make a tremendous splash that would have been felt around the world. She and the people/movements she champions would have been celebrating for days. Bush would have been shown on the world wide stage as someone who could not be respected in his own house. The French media, Iranian News, Al-Jazeera, etc. would probably have put the film of any displays or attempts at protest on a 72 hour loop.

If she had been able to remain at this event and nothing notable occured, I would expect the media to make note of the lack of spectacular display, because that would be news worthy all by itself. Why do left wing spokespersons keep pooh poohing the obvious?
