Bruce,

I've tried to track this thread off and on, but it's only been lately that I've been able to.

I see your reference to STEC and was curious if you're seeing the same Cup and Handle pattern that I'm seeing:

bigcharts.marketwatch.com

It's curious that many companies are vesting their stock options prior to the end of 2005 in order to reduce the impact of having to account for them against their earnings.

STEC has already announced that doing so will save them $9.4 million in future periods (how far out is unsure).

As a result of the accelerated vesting, SimpleTech expects that it will not have to recognize compensation expense of approximately $9.4 million in future periods beginning January 1, 2006, including approximately $3.8 million of compensation expense in 2006. Based on the closing price of SimpleTech common stock on December 19, 2005, our historical employee turnover rates and estimate of future employee separation, the company estimates that it will incur a non-cash stock charge of approximately $374,000 as a result of the accelerated vesting in the fourth quarter of 2005.

biz.yahoo.com

Don't currently hold a position, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but the chart is interesting and the daily chart (input daily interval in above link) indicates a tight Bollinger Band "pinch", which is something else I look for prior to initiating a trading position.

What say y'all?

Hawk
