First off, he claimed that the Americans held hostage in Iran for 444 days when Carter was president were finally released when Reagan became President because the Iranians feared that the hawkish Reagan would attack them. Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! The Americans were able to go home because a CANADIAN diplomat managed to "create" fake passports for the hostages who, under disguise, got through Iranian airport security clearance. The Canadian diplomat risked his neck to save those Americans! When the Yankees got home they were profusely thankful. And now that self-serving Podhoretz pulls a fast one! What malarkey he spews off! Second, the author mentioned that as not even the Nazis and the former USSR were able to perpetrate a "9/11" attack, the 9/11 attack that occurred could not have been prevented even with the best preparations to forestall it. I disagree! Rightly or wrongly, I believe it happened because it was allowed to happen because the Bush and his neo-cons needed a "Pearl Harbor" incident to galvanize the entire nation towards attacking the Moslems in the oil-rich countries of the Middle East and Afghanistan!!! Also, it should be noted that the country with the most to gain from 9/11 was Israel. It was reported that Mossad personnel were seen high-fiving whilst videotaping 9/11 in real time! These "tourists" were apprehended but released without incident. No such luck for other Middle Easterners and folks who looked like them! And don't forget that many Jews stayed away from work at the WTC on 11th September 2001! Were they prescient of impending doom or were they tipped off? Interested readers may find many articles pertaining to evidence (or conspiracy theories, if you like) that 9/11 was partly an inside job at rense.com . It is interesting that Ground Zero in the aftermath of 9/11 was off limits lest incriminating evidence be found. And, to date, no government agency has dared to take a frontal assault and refute those conspiracy theories, to the best of my knowledge. The author also erred on some other points. But, as I do not wish to make this post too long, I will omit pointing them out. To be sure, the author was very self-serving, partisan and ingratiating with the Bushies. Understandable, I guess. .
