Bob McEwen (another republican) has filed to run against her. On Schimdt's website jeanschmidt.com there is a graph which shows her leading Bob McEwen 54% to 34%, what she doesn't mention is that she had the the poll done 2 weeks before McEwen even filed to run. She also has a graph showing the results of the question "Between Jean Schmidt and John Murtha, which persons viewpoint most closely matches yours. Her results show that 83% picked her viewpoint and 11% picked Murtha's. ____________________ Taxpayer offers Rep. Schmidt a job evaluation MARK MILLER | COMMUNITY PRESS GUEST COLUMNIST In January of each year, we do employee evaluations around the office. I decided to draw one up of our new congresswoman, Jean Schmidt, and share it with her: During your first four months in office, we have found you to use poor judgment, be mean-spirited and dishonest and to act in unprincipled or hypocritical ways. Let me give you some specifics: Let's start with your Congressional oath of office in which you swore to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic" and "bear faith and allegiance to the same." On Jan. 4, in a speech in Loveland, Ohio, you said in discussing a question about privacy rights: "we're at war...suspending the Constitution is sometimes necessary." That oath you took was not optional and it did not have exceptions. Next, in your maiden speech on the House floor, you pledged to "refrain from name-calling or the questioning of character." You proceeded to explain why this principle was important: "Harsh words often lead to headlines, but walking this path is not a victimless crime. This great House pays the price." Then, within weeks, you made international headlines by attacking -- on the House floor -- a decorated war veteran and respected voice on military affairs by calling him a coward. Ms. Schmidt, you embarrassed not only yourself, but also every voter who placed their confidence in you. Your first legislative initiative was a bill to restrict telephone solicitations into homes by politicians. You get another strike against you for failing to understand the constitutional rights of Americans. Then, you added insult to injury by weeks later proceeding to interrupt my dinner before the holidays with an unsolicited, recorded phone call, telling me what you are doing in Congress. Later I discovered the calls were at taxpayer expense. Misusing our resources for personal purposes is strictly forbidden around here. Of course, you say you are for limited government and lower taxes, but you voted for the Congressional pay raise and, previously, for every single increase ever proposed by Bob Taft, including a 1-cent increase in the sales tax, and higher taxes on gasoline and alcohol. That's three more strikes for hypocrisy. As you can see, we have some serious problems with your job performance. While we would typically like to work through these problems with our employees, budgetary constraints and the importance of correcting the direction of the country just do not give us that luxury in this competitive time. In conclusion, after a careful look at your performance on the job, we have decided it's best that you look for another job. The good news is that you have until the end of the year to find something else, at which time your employment here will be terminated. I am sorry it did not work out. We had such high hopes for you in this new position. Mark Miller is a resident of Zumstein in Hyde Park.news.communitypress.com
