"A veteran researcher," reports The New York Times, "said the staff had been told that the cuts would be concentrated among researchers in wind and biomass, which includes ethanol."

This is so typical of Bush. To take as a central example something like switchgrass, which shows real promise as an ethanol source, to give his talk credibility, and then behind the scenes cripple the possibility of it ever being used.

Just another shell game.

By the way, since the botched response to Katrina was mentioned, there is also the botched response to Rita. Clean up still isn't finished, there are neat piles of housing material and cut up trees all over Beaumont. Blue tarps on the roofs, and we are starting to get spring rains. Almost all of the fences are still down, electric poles aren't straight and fallen trees are cut back so they don't intrude on the roads. The insurance companies are starting to settle, but FEMA loans haven't been available, much less having FEMA out to inspect anything.

But it has only been 5 months...
