I also didn't need X'ray vision to see that Podhoretz's statement that it was the Iranians' fear of Reagan that made them release the hostages was inaccurate! You have to understand that when the news first came out, all the details were not available as they are now. With news being sensationalized at the time, and exploited for whatever political mileage available, the general impression given was that very many hostages were taken. And when Podhoretz referred to all the hostages were released, I used the same phrase too. Even those 6 were not in Iranian custody, the very fact their lives were in danger is tantamount to their being actual hostages. .
