Selling an option or shorting an option is the same thing.

I used to sell/short puts when I wanted the underlying.

At the moment I happen to be short 40 calls, but covered.

Shorting naked calls is a bit more risky.

Correct... and Pat is right, shorting and selling options is the same thing...
