re: What are the odds? The Republicans need to play to their base. The Democrats are busy hiding under rocks and behind trees. So who is left?

The vast middle of the country that is so involved in their jobs and getting the kids to soccer practice that they never read the paper or even watch the evening news.

How do you get them interested in politics?

Democrats are not hiding at all. What are you talking about? In fact, Dems are fearlessly clamoring for attention on-stage, every one of them more than willing to speak out strongly against the Bushies.

This is a dramatic change from past elections, especially 2002 when Bushies successfully limited criticism by branding anyone who spoke out a "traitor in league with Osama and Saddam".

The problem is that the networks don't give equal time when the minority party doesn't control any branch of government.
