I really don't expect much to happen militarily. As you point out, the Persian Gulf is critical to the world economy, and it's unlikely that any country that buys oil from there (which is every country that could do something) is likely to risk the consequences. Israel is really the only wild card.

But Iran is no Iraq.

Yes. Iran is no Iraq. But the difference is miniscule. It is like the difference between a "team" of football-watching couch potatoes and a junior high school football team. However, it makes little difference when they are up against the Super Bowl champions. Both teams will get thrashed.

They will cause havoc in the Strait of Hormuz and throw the world economy out of whack. In that case the other nations will intervene.

The Dumbya gang will pre-empt that by grabbing a few hundred square miles of territory around the straits. The initial wave of attacks will be designed to take out Iranian forces in and around the straits and in the oil/gas producing regions. Unlike in the case of Iraq, there will be no shock and awe of Tehran to start with.

Besides, Bush does not have the money. The Iraq war has been a big drain financially.

That has never been the problem for Dumbya. Congress has given him a blank check to wage any war he wants and when it comes to funding them, they will vote for any amount, lest they be branded as "unpatriotic".

However, in the long run, all this will be utterly ruinous. In that sense, we do agree. It is just that I disagree with you about whether the Dumbya gang will pull off an attack on Iran and whether they can get away with the financial consequences of that in the short-term.

I think the anti-war folks who are saying "Iran is no Iraq" are actually playing into the hands of the Dumbya gang. It will help them project the view that Iran is really a threat when in fact it is not. Iran's defense and offense capabilities are about as primitive as that of Iraq's were in 2003, and any differences are so small as to be inconsequential.
