I have always had a great respect for the Russian people. Besides loving most of their composers and writers.

One of the sad things about the cold war was the exclusion of a wonderful Documentary entitled the Defense of Stalingrad. It was based on how the citizens themselves fought the Germans and held the City. They did this for days..

It was ruled a propaganda film after the war and just passed into ennui. I had seen it at college and was very moved by their passion to fight for their country. The same film showed their scorched earth policy too. The peasant burned everything they had and fled, rather than have the advancing German Army benefit in anyway from their crops and possessions...
