Warner should be seen as an insurance policy in case the rightwing spin and smear machine hasn't folded by 2008.

Warner may not be the best president, but he is probably the best in terms of being impervious to the usual rightwing playbook attacks, which basically portray more or less liberal democrats as "traitors". But Bushies branded McCain a "traitor" too in 2000, so they don't really care who they're running against. They smear anyone.

Hopefully by 2008, Bush-Cheney will both be impeached and their rightwing will be totally discredited. Then, John Kerry would be the right choice. But I agree, if we need someone to beat the rightwing smear jockeys, Warner is the best armed for the job, having his own NASCAR team and all that.
