When I visited Venezuela some years ago, my impression was that the main potential opposition of their pampered military were... their own population. I think that's still the case.

Socialism is inevitably a dictatorship. Chavez is just another strongman. I have little doubt that he will try to become an el Presidente for life.

We won't resolve this issue today, but please allow me to compliment you on the way you conduct the discussion. You talk real issues. Much too often on SI if someone disagrees with your politics, they announce you to be a moron, an SOB, born of defective parents... and so forth... ;)

On this wonderful web site of ours, unfortunately, Political Intolerance reigns supreme.
