You're 100% correct... referring to the maneuver as shorting is such an easy habit to get into since that's the mindset when selling them, it should be referred to as selling and buying, and not going long or short...

Not so.

That may be exactly what you want. Selling naked puts may just mean you want the underlying but at a more favorable price.

That's what you mean by the matching cover, isn't it?
