DJ Indian Rail Depot Fire Destroys Goods Meant For Pakistan

.

AMRITSAR, India (AP)--A massive fire at a rail depot near India's border town of Amritsar on Monday destroyed large stocks of trade and quake-relief goods destined for Pakistan, a railway official said.

Goods worth millions of rupees (tens of thousands of dollars) were destroyed when the depot at the Attari railroad station caught fire early in the morning, said Ratan Chand, a commandant of the Railway Protection Force.

There was no loss of life or injuries from the accident, he said.

The goods destroyed included trade consignnments and relief material for quake-hit areas in Pakistan, Chand said. They were to be transported by the Samjhauta Express - the only train link between rival India and Pakistan - to the western Pakistani city of Lahore, he said.

Chand said the cause of the fire was not immediately known, but he ruled out foul play.

DJ Australia's Boral To Invest US$62M In US Tile Plants -2-

why not build this in fla? where roofs from hurricanes keep getting ripped off?

Boral said the Las Vegas plant will complement MonierLifetile's existing production facility in Henderson, Nevada, with a capacity to produce 75% more roof tiles annually on a high-speed line.

It will produce a variety of roof tiles and trim tile to service customers in the new growth corridors of Las Vegas.

The Florida plant will be built on MonierLifetile's existing Lake Wales site, increasing MonierLifetile's annual capacity in Florida by 40%.

Oh I see that they got fla covered - hehe

It will focus on customers in high growth markets across central and north Florida, while supporting growth in MonierLifetile's emerging markets of Georgia and the Carolinas, while also freeing up capacity in its southern Florida plants to better service those markets.

The new clay roof tile plant will increase Boral's capacity in western U.S. markets by 50% and is expected to be operational in the last quarter of calendar 2007.

Boral's chief executive Rod Pearse said, "We believe that the long-term underlying demand levels in residential housing in the U.S. will remain robust, supporting our current investment activities in bricks and roof tiles."

The California plant would complement the construction of a new clay tile plant in Trinidad, which is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2006, to service the Florida and eastern U.S. markets, he said.
