I heard Barton Biggs on the radio this weekend say that hedge fund managers pretty much have to have all their funds in the hedge fund or they could be accused of front running and other crap... He said you might not even be able to have a total market fund as a core holding if you short the S&P futures with a hedge fund... I believe he said most big hedge fund managers have their core money in US Treasuries and the rest in their own funds.
