Interesting... But while Iran holds the world's second-largest reserves of oil and gas and is the fourth-largest oil producer, it is in fact a net importer of refined oil products, including gasoline. And internal consumption of oil products in Iran is growing by 5.2 percent a year, far faster than its ability to increase refining capacity.

But, in the long run, all we can really do is wait. And prepare for the worst. The worst is that Iran takes out Israel, or part of Europe, or part of the US.

We can "hope" and perhaps "work toward" the present leadership in Iraq to fail, or failing that, to fall.

The article you posted here, LB, is the first one I've seen about a Democrat-conceived alternative to a showdown with Iran. Other than Barnett's alternative, which I'm still trying to figure out.
