Socialism combined with capitalism and a Jeffersonian democracy is exactly the government we have, love and need, though Bush and the rightwing are eagerly trying to defy Jeffersonian ideals, corrupt its foundations and privatize (ie rip off) the public wealth, transfering Medicare, military and Social Security into the hands of his corporate cronies and letting them tack on large profits.

This type of privatization hurts the consumer and taxpayer and often results in poor service and massive corruption, as we are seeing now with Bush's dishonest and inept new Medicare prescription drugs plan. Also, Bush has outlawed competitive pricing for prescription drugs instead of trusting in competition and market forces, thereby gouging taxpayers and consumers by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Halliburton is another example where privatization costs the taxpayer dearly. HAL is gouging billions from us.

Every single developed country is more or less socialist. It is not a negative word and has nothing to do with communism. That's a big fat rightwing lie. Communist governments are much closer to rightwing military dictatorships. Socialist governments are usually free and open, fully democratic and non-militaristic.
