Hi Sam,

>>IEEE starts hammering out mesh network standard [Computerworld]
News Story by Stephen Lawson

JULY 20, 2005<<

Mesh networking has been around since the 1970s as 'packet radio'

DARPA stopped funding packet radio around 2000, and many IR&D programs looked for ways to liquify their mesh projects, leading to Mesh Networks, Firetide, etc. to be spun out of government contractors.

>>There are 15 proposals for the standard, <<

IEEE 802.11s will probably select one mesh proposal in March as the basis for the first draft of a standard, likely based on SeeMesh, with elements from many of the original 15 proposals.

Mesh is in tanks, ships and other DOD entities, and has been for years.
