Which is why I perceive the west must walk carefully so that we don't play right into the hands of the radicals.

The use boycotts works both ways , they might burn down a few embassys , but the real loss will be theirs . Lets just say that vacationing will continue its downslide this year in Indonesia for a start . For every action is an equal response , and all you need is a few ticks down in the US economy , and you start to have some real startling ripple effects throughout the globe . Slow down on oil demand , and the loss of foreign aid moneys as well, this reflex is automatic and part of the macro-economic engines . There will be more suffering across the world of Islam for this , they can still sit in the cafes of Damascus and debate while it happens , if they can afford they coffee .
