Illusion 3: The U.S. won't attack Iran because that would infuriate the millions of Iran-allied Shiites in Iraq, greatly damaging the U.S. war effort there. I think this is correct. Cheney must realize by now that the U.S. is getting it's butt kicked in Iraq, and that whatever regime is clawing it's way to power there, they aren't going to give him the oil fields. Therefore I don't think he cares one way or another what goes on in Iraq. He may think he has a better chance in Iran. Maybe his Chalabi-clone is less of a crook? What's he got to lose? Now Iraq is only a P.R. problem, and a new war might be just the distraction they need to cut and run. TP
