All rights reserved unfortunately, the more people profess not be scared by action such as today's , the more reason there actually is to be apprehensive about what's to come. it could well be that this drop was a typical bull market tree shake, but this is not a certainty. it may just as well turn out to have been a warning shot. oh well, that's what stops are for, right? All rights reserved that's right, the long bond is needed for asset/liabilites matching at many institutions. it's coming back by popular demand so to speak, and i also expect rates to drop after the refunding concludes. especially in view of contracting inflation expectations and an incipient consumer-led recession. All rights reserved imo it's likely to go much better than expected, especially in the new 30-year bond. demand for this issue is enormous judging from the when-issued trading. the pre-auction dip in bonds just before the auction is normal dealer m.o. - it's usually followed by a post auction rally, especially with everybody bearish ( speculators are net short a huge 75,000 contracts in the bond futures ) . I don't know whether this is true but it is hard to imagine he made it up." it's most definitely conceivable that Frum is making things up. he's part of the same crowd that made up the Iraq WMD claims for instance. you know, the purveyors of the 'noble lie'.
