It is in dispute because every time it comes up, the defenders bring up Clinton, Carter, JFK, FDR and try to forge an equivalence. Ignoring the fact that all of them acted before FISA made those things illegal. Then there is the vacuous phrase "your freedoms don't do you any good when you are dead", implying very strongly that we need to give up our rights if we want security.


Yes, I know. I wonder how many times Saddam used that phrase with the Iraqis, or Qadafi with the Libyans.
