You seem to have missed the distinction between generalizing and stereotyping. Intelligent discussion about schools of thought and behavior is not possible without generalizing. There is nothing evil about it.

You're changing the subject. The topic was the attribution of "arrogance" to liberals. Or, though only mentioned in passing, to conservatives. Or centrists.

Those are categories of folk who vary in terms of their arroganceishness (trying, obviously unsuccessfully, to play on Steven Colbert's "truthiness') but are being stereotyped. Like ethnic groups are stereotyped.

Thus the bashing comment. It's simple political bashing. As in "I don't like liberal policies so I'll smear them."
