At a recent Cypress (nyse: CY - news - people ) investor conference, the company's chief financial officer set forth new steps in the company’s financial and business models. To keep up growth, the company plans to improve financial performance and develop a diversified, higher-margin business model. Management said an improvement in margins will be facilitated by very strong intellectual property, efficiencies between manufacturing and research and development, a huge market, differentiated product and low cost manufacturing capacities. Caris analyst Rick Whittington said Cypress' computer, consumer and SunPower divisions are replacing the company's traditional SRAM memory business as the principal product lines. In SRAM, Cypress is behind Samsung, and the market has had low margins on average over the past ten years. In its Datacom business, Cypress said it is reinvesting in wireless infrastructure, which it says should begin "contributing fairly heavily" very soon. In addition, Cypress management talked a lot about image sensors, a new division for the company,. Image sensors have huge application in digital still cameras, cell phones, automotive and industrial. Micron Technology (nyse: MU - news - people ) and OmniVision Technologies (nasdaq: OVTI - news - people ) have seen recent strength in this business, the analyst said.
