I agree completely. IMO, the West and Israel need a full court press to encourage Hamas in that direction. The problem is, that many in the West and Israel don't think strengthening Hamas into a political organization is good. So again, we are stuck.

In order for Hamas to be successful as a government, they must make peace with Israel, they must stamp out Pal corruption, and they must grow up in general. Not easy to do. What is the risk of helping them, only to see them halt part way? I can understand the reluctance to go full out helping them when the outcome is unsure. But all our efforts in the ME seem half-ass'ed and going nowhere.

Look at what has been accomplished (or rather not accomplished) since the Iraqi election. How long are those clowns going to piss around before forming an effective and operational government. Years as near as I can tell.
