I agree that working in groups can be beneficial. Even if we believe the studies that people aren't on the average more productive in groups (I'm not sure I'd call it conclusive, but the evidence seems to be pointing in that direction), that doesn't keep certain groups or certain types of groups, or groups working on certain types of problems from being more productive.

Overall I think flexibility is best. Its not "groups are always better", or "people should always be left to work alone".
