Oral, what you've pointed out is what I understand least about this mess. I feel pretty much the same:

We must remain true to our principals. Our faith teaches us to be tolerant of others. We are guided to treat others well regardless of whether they deserve it.

We are offended by people burning the flag of our country, and burning symbols of our religion (such as the Danish flag). If we react appropriately with outrage when outrageous things happen, we have the right to react with a call for calm when others over react.

If we point out the hypocrisy of muslim dictators using this to deflect criticism against their brutal tyranny, then some people will look, and see that it is true. Others will not.

We ridicule people who compromised their moral authority to support a perjurer and now claim to have it again. Those who see us failing to point out that the cartoons are in bad taste, but well within the rights of a free press, would have a right to ridicule us.
