Hi Mike,
The Israel that preempted in 1967 never dreamed that israel would be holding this land 40 years later. That was a labor govt and even the settlements were supposed to force the arabs to the table for a comprhensive solution. They wouldnt talk then and wont talk now. Thats the crux of the problem dating back to 1947. Arabs could have had partition line but rejected it. After the War for indenpendence, the arabs could have had pre-67 war borders but rejected it. With clinton the arabs could have had slightly adjusted borders with land compensation and some compromise on Jerusalem but rejected that. Now the israelis are imposing adjusted borders on them that are designed to give the israelis as much security as possible. This solution is still based on 67 borders but with no one to talk to they are expanded to some degree and Jerusalem is off the table competely. Thats all the history that counts. It all starts with the UN in 1947. Mike
