BoJ's Fukui "can't say" if monetary policy shift possible at March meeting TOKYO (AFX) - Bank of Japan governor Toshihiko Fukui said although core consumer prices were showing signs of a pickup he could not indicate if the central bank might be poised to change its ultra-loose monetary policy from as soon as its next meeting in March. "Although we expect the core CPI to show a larger (annualised) rise in January (than in the previous two months), we can't say if a policy shift at the next meeting (in March) is in sight," he told a briefing of journalists

He added that even though core prices were now showing signs of a turnaround after years of deflation: "I still can't say that core CPI is rising stably as of today."
