Crabbe, ignorant means lacking knowledge, stupid means unable to process knowledge and come up with good ideas. They are completely different things, though the outcome is much the same. Babies and children are ignorant, but they aren't stupid [though some are]. Same for adults. The point about plate tectonics for climate is the stripping of carbon from the ecosphere into the ocean crust and the subduction of that carbon which either comes back as volcanic action, or stays buried in sedimentary deposits. That is how oil is formed = another Mq theory you won't have read anywhere [that one is from 1981 when I was pondering ophiolite locations in relation to oil fields]. Opening and closing of Panama etc is no big deal by comparison for the world's climate. Mqurice
