Is it possible that the CIA is peopled by "SOME" people who have their own political agenda? Is it possible that "SOME" of these same people had an ax to grind with the Republican Administration, and just didn't get their job done????

I gather, from reading Pillar and Thomas Powers, that the folk who conceived of the central mission of the CIA as getting the intelligence right and letting the political chips fall where they might, those folk are leaving. Thanks to the obvious politicizing of the CIA under the Bush administration.

Pillar admits, as have other long time CIA administrators now leaving, that the issue is less that of the quality of their wmd intelligence prior to the Iraq invasion than the need for the intelligence product to be created as far removed from the politics of the day as possible.

So he advocates more autonomy vis a vis any given administration and suggests, with some hesitation, the Federal Reserve model.
