OK, so I was off by a bit -- it's more like an average of about 180 per year. Still, look at the murder rate in NJ from 1960-2000 (http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/njcrimn.htm). There was an average of 300+ murders in NJ during that period. I don't know how many non-terrorist-related murders there were in Israel over the last few years, but at worst, Israel isn't much more dangerous than NJ.

Just keeping things in perspective!

"By the end of January 2005, more than 3,570 Palestinians had been killed in the conflict and nearly 28,500 injured, with civilians comprising a majority of casualties.2 Children have often been the victims: Four years after the intifada's start on Sept. 28, 2000, more than 600 Palestinian children had been killed and some 10,000 injured.3"

Ten safest countries in the world:

(1) Slovenia 0.7
(2) Austria 0.9
(3) Sweden 1.8
(4) Switzerland 2.3
(5) Israel 2.3
(6) Hong Kong 2.4
(7) Norway 2.5
(8) Ireland 2.8
(9) Finland 3.7
(10) Singapore

The US's murder rate is 8.8 per 100,000 vs Israel's 2.3. There is not doubt that Z's comparison is correct. It is safer to raise a family in Tel Aviv than Jersy City.

Clearly, its not Z who has a problem with math.
