FWIW, I agree that many Libs had a kneejerk reaction to cutting cap gains, simply because it was a "tax cut for the rich". Again, that is only a first order analysis. If the rich consequently taxably trade their assets 3x as much and end up paying more tax, then it was not a tax cut for the rich.

I'm for balanced budgets and progressive taxation, both of which label me liberal since modern conservatives embrace the opposite, but I'm also for accurate understanding on all subjects including not only economics, but also ecology, climate, biology & evolution, etc, which makes me liberal indeed, as I'm sure you can well understand by examining conservative thought in the blogsphere on such matters. :)
