It wasn't the people with the fetuses; it was using their five year olds to carry their placards, teaching their children to scream "Murderer!" at the congregation as we went to church, that I find irresponsible. This goes beyond acceptable protest, imo, and borders on a form of child abuse that reminds me of reading how the extremists teach hate songs to the school children.

For me that crossed a line in responsible behavior and on that same line for me is a spot which Carter crossed as an ex-president.

I found Lowery not quite in the same category, though I still deplore his WMDistraction comment. He is an old Civil Rights warrior, and often speaks in the vernacular of that movement.

I think you are wrong about the people going after Bush being successful in this manner. For the wavering heartland and the South, this kind of behavior is off-putting and alienating. It speaks only to the True Believers who want Bush embarrassed and humiliated any way they can get it done. I don't think that appeals to the more moderate who are turning against Bush as they learn the facts and witness the evasions, but aren't going to respond to your expressions of how he "screwed" the country. This change won't be aided by overt rudeness and ugliness, but deterred. But that's totally just my opinion. Since you see Bush as fair game to be insulted anywhere and anytime, I can understand our failure to agree, so I will let this one go!

Edit_ wanted to add that I base this not just on some warm opinion of Bush, but a desire to maintain a sense of respect for the office of President. I don't like setting a precedent of attacking our head of state willynilly. We did it with Clinton, and I thought it was wrong then, too.

Everyone: Just FYI...Protesters have been behind barricades for YEARS when in DC.....I was in DC every April from 1986 through 2001....All protesters for anything have certain places where protest is allowed, and certain places where it is not.

Boy, that Bush is certainly a busy fellow, isn't he....he is blamed for even getting up in the morning by some people. heheheheh

Protest works- that's why Bush puts people behind fences.
