I'm not sure who you are talking about any more- if it's Summers, I think you are wrong, based on what I've read. Ickes was an actual real progressive- who went around defending the Japanese- so while some progressives, even most, were anti-Asian, so was everyone else. It was rare for anyone to be pro-Asian- but there were some- and some of those- the ones I know about- were progressives and liberals- the same people who were fighting other kinds of discrimination.
