Perhaps they're complete idiots. But I tend to doubt it. As an individual investor, my objective is to make decisions that lead to my long term benefit. That is essentially the CBs objective as well. Unfortunately, their benefit is not always mine. Whether the CBs lose $$ on gold trading is irrelevant. Their objective is to keep the masses convinced that their pieces of paper are better to hold than anything else. Gold is just one tool the CBs use to manipulate the markets to their advantage. If they think it is to their advantage, they'll hand gold out at supermarkets around the country. Or make it illegal to own.
