Great piece by an excellent writer. Thanks.

He makes an incredibly important point why at least many Europeans were attracted to the U.S.:

"Foreigners love us for our jazz. And they don’t hate us for our purported liberty and justice for all. They hate us now for our arrogance."

Ironically, it was Black and Indian culture that attracted me and many others the most. I came to the States because of the music (Blues and Jazz) and because I wanted to experience the places where the American Indian had freely roamed.
