Since futures can be settled in cash and since those futures China is rumored to be buying are denominated in USD and mostly traded at US friendly places in Chicago, NY, London then could the US just settle futures in cash by printing USD?

They can just as easily print dollars, buy Euros, and pay in Euros. No difference

... yeup, and we need to figure out that perfect instrument of speculation, driven by fear as opposed to greed, and in an asset that is totally useless and therefore has no correct price, however high

oil? nope, because as price rises, use decreases, even though it it useful

google? nope, because speculation in its share is more likely to be backed by finite amount of enthusiasm as opposed to an effectively infinite quantity of fear

... what could that asset be?
