The Counterrevolution in Military Affairs:...Ralph Peters

What a rant! I like Peters, and agree with most of the time. But this article jumps around so much it is almost incoherent.

Yes, we have a major problem with a media who wants to act as a scorekeeper, and dramatize the head-choppers. Yes, the faith of the suicide bombers is a problem, but the answer is to secularize their society though globalization, not to throw up our hands. Yes, we are buying the wrong weapons, but the military has a responsibilty to prepare against possible threats, not just the most likely ones. So they have to be ready for China to go "wog" on us and act irrationally.

Ralph needs to split that article into three articles, complete his points, and quit the hand-wringing.

excellent piece, thanks for posting it. This is an interesting angle that I hadn't seen before:

In their secular way, the world's media elites are as unable to accept the reality confronting them as are Islamist fundamentalists. They hate the world in which they are forced to live, and America has shaped that world.

It isn't that the American-wrought world is so very bad for the global intelligentsia: The freedom they exploit to condemn the United States has been won, preserved, and expanded by American sacrifices and America's example. The problem is that they wanted a different world, the utopia promised by socialist and Marxist theorists, an impossible heaven on earth that captured their imagination as surely as visions of paradise enrapture suicide bombers.
