"The people know that Democrats won't protect them." You are probably right that the Democrats won't protect them from people talking about taking the Brooklyn Bridge apart with blow torches. I suspect that they won't be moving against those types very strongly.

Bush-Cheney have made us all less secure. Which is part of their plan. They botched 9-11, let Osama go, pulled back in Afghanistan too fast, totally botched the Iraq War and got an "F" grade on Homeland Security from the bi-partisan 9-11 COmmission. Then look at Katrina. That was a perfect example of how inept and out of control they are. It was a total disaster from top to bottom. And Bush-Cheney are the ones to blame. So long as people like you feel scared and in need of military photo ops instead of smart action, Bushies will continue trying to scare us instead of actually dealing with real problems. Obviously, Kerry was right about Iraq and counter-terrorism, but Bushies refuse to admit this, despite overwhelming evidence.
