Enron hoodwinked California and Clinton. They did not hoodwink Bush-Cheney. Bush-Cheney were very close to Enron and knew exactly what they were up to. Bush even ran campaign operations of of Enron HQ and let Enron pay for some of its operators, like Ralph Reed. Bush-Cheney also enjoyed free use of Enron corporate jets until someone caught them, then they oly paid back first clas airfare prices.

Grey Davis took a meeting with Ken Lay in 2000 to help him fix the problem before it got worse. Lay lied to Davis and manipulated him to do exactly the wrong thing. because of GOP deregulation of energy markets, pushed through by Pete Wilson, Davis's hands were mostly tied. Davis did nothing wrong except letting himself be the victim of a huge political and energy gouging mugging. That effort was backed by 10 million in Enron cash spent by the RNC/Enron's Ed Gillespie on totally dishonest TV attack ads.
