Kery did help end the Vietnam War. The pressure that young combat hero just back from the Mekong put on Nixon was intense.

Kerry was such a potent force that Nixon (in the Watergate tapes) ordered him "destroyed" and put the FBI on him, wiretapping and surveying him for two years.

The FBI's final report concluded that Kerry was a law-abiding "moderate" in the anti-war movement and worked within the system. He never advocated any violent or radical protests, but his symbolic protests were so powerful they helped pressure Nixon into ending the war sooner than he otherwise would have.

Since the Vietnam War was dead wrong and needlessly killed 56,000 US troops and 2 million Vietnamese, Kerry was a hero to try and end that war. Even McNamara now admits the Vietnam War was a total mistake based on lies and false theories.
