Germany ..... and are much less vulnerable to Arab oil cut-offs that they were 20 years ago.

Sure and the reason for that is their dependence on gas imports from Russia now covering approx. 20% of their energy needs.
First serious Russian black mail attempt by playing the "gas card" lies only 8 weeks back or so.

This action taken by "Gazprom", the Russian national gas exporter giant now under the command of Gerhard Schroeder (ex Chancellor of Germany) and his buddy Putin. Orders from the top, "let us squeeze them a little bit", you know.
