Well, actually, in large part I am curious as to whether it makes any sense to give a damn about the future of New Orleans when the people there don't seem to.

I mean, if you say "fageddabbout it, the nuclear bombs will destroy it all anyway," well, that's as good of an excuse as any I guess.

Fatalism is a state of mind I don't grok -- I know it when I see it. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy -- the most fatalistic people seem to be the ones that the worst things happen to.

We are all going to die, but if, for example, you smoke cigarettes or (God forbid) shoot heroin or have unprotected sex with hookers -- chances are you're going to die sooner than you needed to.

Louisiana could learn from the Dutch -- but then, ya'll would need personality transplants to become like the Dutch and actually care about the future, make plans for the future, act like the ants instead of the grasshoppers.

Isn't going to happen.

If it could have, it already would have.
