The Dallas Morning News had a story this morning on the increased number of assaults on immigration officers along the US-Mexican border. The agents in more remote areas go out to patrol on their own, wondering how long it will take backup to reach them if a group of guys pop up and start filling their patrol car with bullet holes.

Made me think about all the money and troops in Iraq that could have been used defending our own borders against actual threats.

That 60 Minutes story about the large-scale theft of taxpayer funds by American companies in Iraq, is a reminder that we elected two "businessmen" to our top government positions.
Bush, Cheney fit right in with the likes of Lay, Skilling, Scrushy, Kozlowski, Ebbers, Regas et al.

Efficient government run like a business, indeed.....

The other day, I watched Ed Rollins. He admitted that this Bush WH is short on folks with a good track record of getting things done. But he also went onto say that this WH is also election proof. His words were something to the the effect that they are not good at executing anything except running a effective election campaign.

And I agree with his assessment.

So that means the only way the Democrats and some Republicans who oppose Bush's ideas can win if they run a more effective election campaign. Right now, all I see is they are criticizing Bush without any alternative plan.

Even the weekly radio address by the Democrat was an attack on Bush. Off course, Bush's address was extremely unimpressive. But the Democrats failed to capitalize on that.
