I am reminded of a discussion I had with a group of socio-economically disadvantaged students whose parents could not afford home computers or internet connections. They viewed the informational advances embodies within theses technologies as negatively impacting them as it would enable the educational gap between rich and poor to widen.

I am reminded of last seasons stargate atlantis - where the poor dumb village folk often seem thankful the stargate team with atlantean technology and knowledge come in and save thier butt.

But then stargate sg-1 comes on and the ORI use advanced technology and knowledge to kick some arse and the humans dont like that so much. I think if these disadvantaged students felt the superior tech of superior people was going to be used to beat them down instead of lift them up - they have every right to be feeling negative. Ayn says let them eat cake right?
