Hi John....>>> But the real problem is not that. The real problem is the creation and maintenance of a first rate professionally organized and supported FEMA <<<

Re FEMA....I would agree with you...we either know what FEMA does, and what it is supposed to do, or we do not, until it is too late. First, the budget and the number of employees were cut. There are, I believe, now about 2500 FEMA employees scattered throughout the US and in DC. Evidently they hire contractors to do the work.

In a time that it seems most of the country is screeching about the high amount of spending, and yet, also screeching when something doesn't get accomplished because there are not enough people to do it, or featherbedding, or whatever the reason....I think we are going to have to look at major items one at a time. It would be nice to think we could be non-partisan, but that may be wishful thinking.

I do know the reason I am asking questions and even bothering taking the time to do so, is that we ALL must start to ask the questions ourselves, and know what and how things should be accomplished in a disaster of any cause.

And regarding:
>>> Somewhere, we are going to learn, between Michael Brown's testimony about the 9:27 time and the time the Bush WH folk claim to have been aware of the levee leak, there were serious, very serious communication problems. Someone(s) is clearly trying to do heavy cya. <<<

I think we already know there were serious communication problems. IF we go back and listen to the actual TV broadcasts, I know we are going to find that Monday morning everyone woke up to hear that the storm hadn't come in where expected, and that the damage wasn't as bad as originally thought with a potential Cat 5 storm, even though there was certainly damage. I now read the storm was a Cat 3 when it arrived onshore, but evidently was a Cat 4 when it got to NO. Did I remember that right?

Remember too, that the power was out, and communications of any consequence were also out. People COULD NOT get in to rescue people because the weather situation was so desperate. People could not get in easily to see what happened to the levys to see the problems. Things were still flying through the air at the time. And we all know that the Mayor of NO and Gov of LA had dropped the ball in many ways, including not allowing the Feds to come in for 24+ hours.....

So no one has to do cya...all we have to do is get the blow by blow (no pun) descriptions from all the different media outlets, and put them together. We will see what we all knew and when we knew it.

Do go back and look at the Timeline (there are many) but again, here is a complete one...
